What is an intercity ambulance?
It is a long-distance transfer that takes the patient to a hospital, care facility or home outside the province. The difference from a local transfer is not only distance: because the journey takes hours, the patient’s position, meals, medication times and possible rest stops are planned in advance.
Most common routes from Tekirdağ
| Route | Main road |
|---|---|
| Tekirdağ – Istanbul | The D110 coast road, or the O-3 motorway via Çorlu |
| Tekirdağ – Edirne | Via Muratlı – Lüleburgaz – Babaeski (D100), or the O-3 |
| Tekirdağ – Kırklareli | Via Muratlı – Lüleburgaz |
Transfers to Ankara, İzmir, Bursa, Çanakkale and other provinces are also planned.
How the journey is planned
- Receiving hospital confirmed — unit, physician and admission time are agreed before departure.
- Patient’s condition — diagnosis, medication, equipment and travelling position, checked with the treating doctor.
- Vehicle and crew — chosen to match the patient’s needs.
- Route and timing — worked back from the arrival time, allowing for Istanbul’s rush hours.
- Documents — discharge summary, test results, medication list and ID travel with the patient.
Is the return leg included?
After handover the vehicle returns empty, and this is part of the cost. When comparing quotes, ask whether tolls are included, how waiting at the destination is charged and what happens if the plan changes on the way. See questions to ask when getting a quote.
When a long road journey may not be suitable
For unstable patients, those who recently had major surgery or who need intensive care, the decision is made with the treating doctor. An intensive-care ambulance or air ambulance may be considered instead.
