How long does the transfer take?
Map distance alone does not set the time of a patient transfer:
| Factor | Effect |
|---|---|
| Departure district | Çerkezköy and Çorlu are closer to Istanbul; Şarköy and Malkara much further |
| Side of the city | Hospitals on the Asian side add a bridge or tunnel crossing |
| Time of day | Entry to Istanbul slows in the morning and evening |
| Patient’s condition | Some patients need lower speed and stops |
| Building access | Collection and handover add to the journey |
Roads
Two main options: the coastal D110 through Marmaraereğlisi and Silivri, or the O-3 motorway joined via Çorlu. The choice depends on the start point, the destination district and traffic at the time.
Planning
- Get the admission time and entrance from the Istanbul hospital
- Work backwards to a departure time with a traffic margin
- Put the discharge summary, test results and medication in one folder
- Decide who travels in the vehicle
- Hand over to the ward or doctor with the documents

Frequently asked questions
Do you go to hospitals on the Asian side?
Yes, to both sides of Istanbul; crossing time and cost are factored in.
What is the best time to leave?
It depends on the admission time. Early morning and night are usually easier for traffic.
