Why transfer to Edirne?
Edirne has one of the oldest university hospitals in Thrace, used by patients from the western and north-western districts of Tekirdağ. The second reason is the border: the Kapıkule, Hamzabeyli, Pazarkule and İpsala gates to Bulgaria and Greece are all in Edirne province.

Before the journey
Confirm admission with the hospital in Edirne, keep referral papers and test results in one folder, bring medication due during the trip, and decide who accompanies the patient. In winter, fog, snow and ice on the Thracian plain can slow travel; transfers are planned for daylight where possible.
For onward travel abroad see international patient transfer; for the general framework see intercity ambulance.
Frequently asked questions
I have been referred to the university hospital in Edirne. Who arranges transport?
The patient or a relative can call and plan it; the time and department where you are expected are enough.
What if the road is closed in winter?
Conditions are checked before departure and the transfer is moved to a safer time if needed.
